Why aren’t we smarter? 10

That was my question for Mary Meeker at the AllThingsD confernece today.   She gave an amazing talk that’s below – it’s a must read.  My question was that with all this internet penetration, and a generation of having the world’s information at our fingertips, why aren’t we smarter from all of it?    Her answer was that basically we can hope that our kids are getting smarter – we probably won’t.   But I think it’s more than that – there should be more benefits showing up earlier, or at least that’s what you’d expect.    Maybe we’re spending too much time on Farmville instead of Kahn Academy, but I think it has something to do with a Productivity Paradox where it takes a while for it to sink in and take hold and give benefits.   Maybe it’s like the decade or more it took for companies to see productivity benefits from putting PC’s on everyone’s desks in the ’80′s and ’90′s.    But I”m still wondering.
